I have had several calls of this naure to my business number and the implication is that the caller is a Police Officer trying to sell you/your business advertising space in crime prevention brochures and magazines that don’t actually exist. The thing is, you are led to believe you are doing a good turn by supporting the Police Force when, in actual fact, the money is simply pocketed by these people.

Why would the police sell advertising space? You should be calling the police so that they can trace these calls.

We had pretty much the same thing but this was supposed to be the fire service, when I tried to ring them back to check them out the number was invalid. I called the police.
There are lots of these scams knocking about.
Did you also know that if you agree anything over the phone then it is a legal bining obligation and they can take you to court.
This happened to a friend and because they talk fast over the phone my friend said yes send me some details, that was all she said. Next thing she had a bill for an advertisement that she had not signed…its a long story but she had to pay up or be taken to court and then receive a black mark. So watch out especially on the phone.
